BMO HARRIS BANK SHRED EVENT HELPS FEED HUNGRY KIDS

MEDIA ALERT / COMMUNITY EVENT / PHOTO OPPORTUNITY

WHAT: Community shred event where individuals can shred their sensitive documents and help a hungry child at the same time. There is no cost for the shredding other than to bring a non-perishable food item. Food collected will be given to Feeding Empty Little Tummies, Inc. (FELT), who serve Manatee County.

SARASOTA, FL (April 15, 2013) – The community is invited to help fight identity theft AND fight hunger by participating in BMO Harris Bank’s Shred Event.

Wednesday, April 17, from 11am until 2pm, the public can bring their sensitive documents for shredding to the BMO Harris branch located at 4115 U.S. Highway 301 N, Ellenton. The only cost to have documents shred is to provide at least one non-perishable food item that will be given to Feeding Empty Little Tummies Inc. (FELT).

FELT serves Manatee County children who might not otherwise have food to eat over the weekend. Youth who have been identified by the school board as homeless are discreetly provided a backpack for the weekend filled with two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners and two nutritious snacks before they leave school for the weekend. FELT is currently working with 11 schools, and has plans to increase their reach.

The food should be small, lightweight and kid-friendly. Items such as mac and cheese, cereal and oatmeal packets, frank and bean, pudding cups, peanut butter, canned ravioli, disposable soup cups and granola bars are great choices.

Individuals are limited to two filing size boxes of documents for shredding.

BMO Harris Bank Vice President and Florida Community Affairs Manager, Monica Christopher, said, “FELT helps to fill a critical need in our community. We hope cars are lined up in our parking lot on Wednesday with documents to shred and bags of nutritious food to help feed these needy children.”
